Juneau has a sophisticated medical community for a town of its size, based largely on a well-insured public sector.   The town’s almost 200 physicians practice a wide variety of specialties.  City-owned Bartlett Regional Hospital has 57 inpatient beds serving a regional population of about 55,000 people.  The Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium contracts with the federal Indian Health Service to provide medical services to the region’s Tlingit, Haida and Tsimpsian population.
